CasperTalk is built so that there is almost nothing to write here. The short version: your scripts, decks and voice stay on your Mac; this website sets no cookies and counts visits without storing anything in your browser; a Pro purchase is handled by Stripe and leaves us with your email, a license key, and a one-way hash of the Mac you activate it on.

The app

Scripts and imported decks are files in ~/Library/Application Support/CasperTalk on your Mac. They are never uploaded.
Microphone audio (when Voice-Follow is on) is analysed in memory to detect whether you are speaking. It is not recorded, transcribed, stored or sent anywhere.
Slide Tracking asks Keynote or PowerPoint for the current slide number (and, when you import an open presentation, its speaker notes) through macOS automation, locally.
Usage metering for the free plan (words scrolled per month) is a local file. It is not reported to us.
Update checks. Once a day the app asks caspertalk.com whether a newer version exists. The request carries the app's version number and nothing else about you or your Mac. We count these requests, using the same daily-salted hash as the download counter below, to know roughly how many Macs run CasperTalk; no identifier is stored. You can turn the daily check off in Settings → Updates and check by hand instead.
Logs stay local. The app keeps a small log file on your Mac (Help → Reveal Log Files) so that a problem can be diagnosed if you choose to send it to us. It is never sent automatically.
The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs. Its only network requests are the update check above and the single license activation described below.

Buying and activating Pro

Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store card details. Stripe gives us your email address and the purchase record.
Your license key is derived from the purchase and shown on the key page; if email delivery is configured, a copy is sent to the address you paid with (via Resend).
Activating Pro sends the key and a device hash to caspertalk.com once. The hash is a SHA-256 digest computed from your Mac's hardware identifier; it cannot be turned back into a serial number or used to identify you, and the identifier itself never leaves your Mac. We store the hash next to the key so the same Mac can re-activate after a reinstall. One key unlocks one Mac.

This website

No cookies. Nothing is written to your browser — no cookies, no local storage, no fingerprinting scripts.
Cookieless analytics. We use PostHog in its cookieless mode to see how many people visit, which pages they read, and whether they click the download or buy buttons. Visitors are counted with a hash computed on PostHog's servers from your IP address and browser; the hash changes daily and cannot be reversed or linked to you across days. There is no session recording, no automatic click capture, and no identification. Page URLs are sent without query strings, so the key page's URL is never transmitted. We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: with either enabled, nothing is sent at all.
No advertising pixels, no third-party fonts. Analytics requests go to caspertalk.com and are relayed to PostHog from there.
Download counts. Clicking a download button passes through caspertalk.com/download, which adds one to a counter and records a daily-salted hash of your IP address and browser so we can tell repeat downloads from new ones on the same day. The hash cannot be reversed, is meaningless the next day, and only the count derived from it is kept.
Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) for a short period for security and operations.
